GEN.G vs CHAOS ESPORTS CLUB ESL PRO LEAGUE SEASON 12 BETTING PREVIEW

After getting reverse-swept by Team Liquid on the opening day of ESL Pro League Season 12 North America, Chaos Esports Club will hope they can gain some traction this Tuesday when they clash with Gen.G.

Chaos have been mentioned in CS:GO esports circles quite frequently across the year, but for all the wrong reasons. They have made more than a dozen roster changes in 2020, and while it seemed like the signing of Nathan “leaf” Orf and Jonathan “Jonji” Carey at the start of June would finally bring some stability, that was not the case.

Last week, Joshua “steel” Nissan decided to end his 10-year Counter-Strike career and transition to VALORANT. As his replacement, Chaos acquired Mexican CS:GO pro Edgar “MarKE” Maldonado, who previously represented eUnited and Ze Pug Godz.

Chaos have played only one fixture since the latest roster change, and that ended in a 1-2 loss to Team Liquid on the opening day of the ESL Pro League. Chaos took the series lead with 16-10 on Nuke but completely fell apart on Overpass and Mirage, losing both 10-16.

One positive we can take from that series is the solid performance form MarKE, who averaged a 1.07 rating. On the other hand, it’s difficult to be too optimistic about Anthony “vanity” Malaspina and Jonji’s performances since they averaged 0.82 and 0.91 ratings respectively. They both average a shade under 1.10 across the last three months, so perhaps they just had an off day.

Gen.G enter this bout following a well-deserved 2-0 win against Triumph, who they defeated with 16-10 on Inferno and 16-10 on Mirage. The match was much closer than that score suggests, however, as Triumph held the lead at critical stages on both maps.

This marked Gen.G’s first win of the month after they lost to 100 Thieves (1-2) and FURIA (0-2) during ESL One Cologne 2020 Online North America. Although we shouldn’t undervalue their victory, Gen.G’s success came down to Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand’s performances alone.

The Indonesian CS:GO legend ended the series with a 1.61 average rating and a huge 1.86 on Mirage, which was far above any other player that day. Damian “daps” Steele was solid with 1.14, but it’s fair to say that Gen.G would have a much harder time defeating Triumph without BnTeT’s standout performance.

These teams last met at the end of June during cs_summit 6 Online North America, where Gen.G secured a comfortable 2-0 win. That result does not tell us much about how this bout will play out, however, considering Chaos’ roster changes and the fact that over two months have passed since.

Gen.G are priced as favourites to win here, but it’s difficult to trust a team that won a match solely due to one player’s phenomenal performance. As good as BnTeT is, he is unlikely to repeat those numbers any time soon.

That is not to say Chaos are a top-tier team by any stretch, but their recent wins over FURIA and 100 Thieves suggest they can hang with the big boys.

We like the odds on over 2.5 maps. Across the past three months, Gen.G saw 30.7% of their games end in three maps played, while Chaos has 32.3% of their matches go the distance in the same period. Additionally, Gen.G managed only two 2-0 wins in the last four months, so it’s safe to expect they will drop at least one map.
