T1 and Hanwha Life Esports will clash on Thursday, April 4, in the second round of League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2024 Spring, marking their third meeting of the split.
T1 won their first clash 2-0 at the end of January, but they were humiliated in the rematch at the end of LCK 2024 Spring Week 8. So while T1 are the better team, Hanwa Life Esports have shown they are not to be overlooked.
Considering Hanwha Life Esports managed to defeat T1 at the end of the regular season, it’s fair to assume they can do some damage on Thursday. But if we compare the teams’ performance metrics, T1 are objectively a much better team.
T1 have a better gold differential per minute (+120), better Dragon (65.5%–59.3%) and Baron (82.9%–67-7%) control, as well as a much better gold differential at 15 minutes (+1660) than Hanwha Life Esports (+538).
While HLE were dominant in their sweep of Kwangdong Freecs, it’s not like they beat a team in title contention. Comparing records against the good teams in LCK is a bit trickier as there are not that many great sides, so the obvious thing to look at would be Hanwha’s 2-1 victory against T1 a couple of weeks ago.
However, that match was played on a patch with Azir disabled, which helped Hanwha Life Esports outperform T1. The playoffs are on Patch 14.6 with Azir re-enabled.
HLE deserve some praise for what they’ve shown this split, but besides their upset win against T1, they’ve not looked good when faced with strong opponents. This should end in a smooth victory for T1.
