The Los Angeles Guerrillas secured a crucial victory over the Minnesota R?KKR in the Call of Duty League Stage 2, improving their record to 2-1. The January 22nd fixture was an intense and hard-fought battle, with the Guerrillas coming out on top in a 3-1 victory.
The match began with Hydro Hardpoint, where the Los Angeles Guerrillas dominated the early stages of the game. Led by a strong performance from Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson, the Guerrillas quickly established a 2-0 lead.
Arcitys, the two-time CoD world champion, played an instrumental role in the map, registering 30 kills while only sustaining 14 deaths, resulting in an impressive 2.14 K/D ratio. The Guerrillas controlled the pace of the map throughout, securing a comfortable 250-163 victory.
The second map, Fortress Search and Destroy, was a nail-biting affair, with both teams locked in a fierce battle. The match was close and intense, with both sides trading rounds back and forth.
Despite the fierce competition, the Guerrillas were able to come out on top, thanks in large part to a dominant performance from Assault. With a statline of 11-4, he was instrumental in securing a well-deserved 6-4 victory, giving the Guerrillas the chance to close out the series in the third map.
The third map, Hotel Control, was a closely contested battle between the two teams. Despite L.A. finding an opening while on offense in the third round, Minnesota fought back and won two consecutive attacking rounds, preventing L.A. from securing a sweep and extending the series to a fourth map. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather near the CDL studios in Columbus, OH, the studio lost power and the rest of the series was not able to be broadcasted live to fans.
Despite the lack of live coverage, the Guerrillas were able to secure a victory on the fourth map, Fortress Hardpoint, with a final score of 250-188. While the winning moments for Los Angeles were not streamed to fans, it does not diminish the importance of the victory for the Guerrillas.
The Guerrillas’ recent call-up of Kaden “Exceed” Stockdale, Adam “Assault” Garcia, and Joseph “JoeDeceives” Romero from their academy team has proven to be a successful move as they have gone 2-1 in the current stage, securing wins over top teams like the Los Angeles Thieves and Minnesota R?KKR. This victory over Minnesota further solidifies their position as a formidable force in the league, showcasing their exceptional skill and well-crafted strategies.
LA Gurriellas’ win over Minnesota came to many as a shock, as the latter had come into the match on the back of a 3-0 sweep over Atlanta FaZe. The loss sustained ends ROKKR’s two-game winning streak, having previously defeated the London Royal Ravens with a 3-2 statline. The team seemed to have shaken off their opening game of the season loss to Boston Breach, but coach Mark “MarkyB” Bryceland and the lads have dealt the franchise a blow to their 2023 campaign.
The Guerrillas are set to face off against Atlanta on Friday, January 27th at 5pm CT in their next Call of Duty League match. Minnesota will also be back in action when they play against the Seattle Surge on Sunday, January 29th. The match between the Guerrillas and Minnesota R?KKR was a great display of the high level of competition in the league, with fans hoping the momentum of LAG continues in the bouts in the upcoming weeks.
