Gamers Club, the leading LATAM esports and gaming platform, has announced a strategic partnership with betting provider unikrn.

This Gamers Club-unikrn collaboration aims to enrich the gaming experience by offering more rewards and opportunities for its dedicated users.

From October onwards, unikrn will introduce custom odds specifically tailored for Brazil and Chile’s top-tier CS:GO Gamers Club players using its UMODE product. The feature allows players to wager on their personal gaming performance.

Additionally, as a part of this alliance, Gamers Club members can avail their initial deposit on unikrn as a free ticket to participate in a series of exclusive tournaments.

The synergy doesn’t end here. Unikrn will extend its support to numerous Gamers Club events starting this month. This includes sponsoring tournaments across different formats: 1v1, 2v2, and 5v5. Fans can expect a unique gaming experience in the 1v1 and 2v2 tournaments, as they will be set on a custom map festooned with unikrn branding. There will also be a special mini-game arena where players can hone their CS:GO skills.

This partnership holds significance for many players as it presents a gateway to the world of video games and esports betting through unikrn, a provider experiencing substantial growth in Latin America. With Brazil emerging as a pivotal market, several betting sites, including Betway (betway review) and Rivalry (Rivalry review), have amped up their promotional activities in the region.

Unikrn CEO Justin Dellario expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership and said it would most of all benefit the users of both platforms.

The thrill of competition is what drives so many of us to log on and play every day,” he said.

“Gamers Club, with its emphasis on fostering competitive gameplay and community engagement, is a perfect fit for our offerings.

“We are excited to cater to these passionate communities, ensuring they get more out of their gameplay.”

Unikrn’s focus on expansion is evident. After being acquired for 50m by sports betting conglomerate Entain in August 2021, the company underwent restructuring and made its comeback in Brazil and Canada in December 2022.

Adding another feather to its cap, unikrn allied with Team Liquid in February 2023, further strengthening its commercial outreach.

The Overwatch League announced on Friday that the 2023 playoffs and Grand Finals will be held in Toronto, Canada, for the first time ever.

The Overwatch League grand finals has always been a major event, attracting thousands of fans to different locations in the US. This year, however, the competition will be held outside the country for the first time in the league’s history.

The OWL playoffs and grand finals will be hosted by the Toronto Defiant in downtown Toronto Canada and see the top eight teams compete to secure the 2023 trophy. The playoffs will kick off on September 28 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre, which hosted the Summer Showdown LAN tournament last year, and continue until the grand finals on October 1.

The OWL finals have always been held in the US since the first event in 2018. The competition was hosted by the New York Excelsior in Brooklyn, and the year after, the competition took place in Philadelphia.

The 2020 and 2021 events were held online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. By 2022, the event returned live, and the grand final was held in Anaheim, California.

Now, despite their early elimination in the Spring Stage Knockouts, the Toronto Defiant is set to host this year’s grand finals. The team will need to show significant improvement in the Summer Stage to qualify for the playoffs or make their way through the play-in bracket to compete in front of their home audience.

The venue is not the only change to this year’s OWL grand finals. The league is expected to change the format by splitting teams into two groups of four to face off against each other in a double-elimination bracket.

The selected squads will include the top five teams from the West and the top three from the East. The two teams that finish on top in each group will qualify for the knockout stages. The rest of the competition will be held in a single elimination bracket with a $1 million cash prize for the winners.

While this is the first OWL championship outside the US, it is not Toronto’s first time hosting a major OWL event. The 2022 iteration of the Summer Showdown was notably held in the city.

Despite Enthusiast recording a better Q3 performance than the previous year, the company was still accumulating losses like most publicly traded esports companies. The company recorded more than twice the loss in the same period of 2021. The net loss generated at the quarter was a whooping CAD $30.2m as opposed to the loss of CAD $12.3m attained in the third quarter of the previous year, a difference of CAD $17.9m.

The Chief Executive Officer of Enthusiast Gaming, Adrian Montgomery spoke on the Q3 report.

Our disciplined focus on high-margin revenue opportunities, cost efficiencies and strategic investments like our first-of-its-kind partnership with the NFL for Tuesday Night Gaming have built Enthusiast into a fully-integrated media and entertainment company, a partner of choice for the worlds leading brands, and a dominant player in the gaming and esports world, now on the cusp of sustainable profitability, Montgomery said.

The report showed that the company generated an all-time high gross profits, all-time high gross profit margins, all-time high in direct sales and subscription revenue.

The company’s report also shows that they generated a Q3 revenue of CAD $50.5m, which translated to an increase of CAD $7m as compared to the same period in the previous year. In the entire year, the company recorded a total revenue of CAD $148.8m as opposed to last year’s CAD $110.4m, thereby posting an increase of about CAD $38m.

Owing to the report, the company noted an increase in subscription revenue of about 50%, moving from CAD $2.5m by the same period of 2021 to CAD $3.8m this year. An earning of CAD $6.8m was reported in September from the company’s sale of their editorial properties to the GAMURS Group.

Enthusiast Gaming had earlier announce their search for a new Chief Executive Officer to take over from their current CEO, Adrian Montgomery.

In an update to their search, the company shared that they had formed a Search Committee to oversea the search and eventual recruitment. They also enlisted Russell Reynolds Associates to help in their search for a replacement. Sharing an update on the process thus far, the company said it is deep in the process of conducting interviews and is encouraged by the quality of candidates.

Montgomerys departure was borne out of a call made by the company’s staff members in July, admist an internal leadership struggle. The call necessitated the largest shareholder in Enthusiast Gaming, Greywood Investments, to commence the process of replacing Montgomery and the board of directors with their own nominees.

GameSquare Esports has revealed its 2021 financial report and the report shows that the company suffered a huge loss. The Canadian Esports company has in its portfolio the R7 Gaming, Complexity Gaming, and LGD Gaming esports franchises, alongside the esports agency, Red Esports.

The report revealed a loss of CAD 26.5 million was made by the company for the duration in view (13 months). Compared to the company’s 2020 loss of CAD 3.5 million, GameSquare sustained a heavy loss in the past year. The company also shared the reason for the loss, related it to the ‘non-cash expenses’ and ‘one-time costs’ that were up to the tune of CAD 17.4 million.

The Chief Executive Officer of GameSquare Esports, Justin Kenna spoke about the financial report. He stated that the company’s ‘four times sequential revenue increase from Q3 to Q4’ shows the company’s progress and fast pace growth owing to their strategic acquisitions. He also revealed that this progress is responsible for the company’s stance to increase its 2022 revenue guidance to a range of $30 – $32 million.

We made great progress throughout 2021, best illustrated by a nearly four times sequential revenue increase from Q3 to Q4, reflecting the pace of our organic growth and the positive impact of our strategic acquisitions,” Kenna said. “These factors have given us the confidence to increase our 2022 revenue guidance to a range of $30m (23.9m) to $32m (25.5m).

The acquisitions in question procured by GameSquare include the purchase of one of America’s premier and longest-standing esports organizations Complexity Gaming, for $27 million. GameSquare also bought the multi-hyphenated creative agency Cut + Sew and Zoned for approximately $8 million.

Despite the loss, GameSquare had some notable moments, like the signing of Dennis ‘Cloakzy’ Lepore to the Complexity Gaming roster. The former professional Fortnite player was also made a part-owner of the organization, thereby strengthening the franchise.

Kenna had expressed his excitement about having Cloakzy onboard and highlighted the benefits his acquisition provides.

Cloakzy is revered in the gaming and esports space for his creativity and energy, and were looking forward to bringing his passion to Complexity and GameSquare, Kenna stated. This partnership is deeply strengthened by GameSquares resources and global network, paving the way for Cloakzy to grow his brand while also reinforcing Complexity as a dominant force in content.

Cloakzy referred to his signing to Complexity Gaming as an opportunity for him to attain new heights in content creation and connect on a much deeper level with his audience.

Joining Complexity and GameSquare unlocks new opportunities for me to push the limits of whats possible in content creation and build a deeper connection to my audience, Cloakzy said. Im looking forward to working with TimTheTatman and Complexitys diverse roster of talent in an environment that encourages creativity and supports professional development.

GameSquare’s NFT partnership with Arterra was yet another notable moment for the company and so was the company’s newly formed LA-based creative studio, Fourth Frame Studios.

CANADA’S evolution into a burgeoning esports powerhouse took another step forward this week after Calgary announced a new professional gamers league.

The Calgary Esports League has been established to attract professional players, teams and big events in one of the country’s biggest cities.

While the exact details and dates are still to be fleshed out, the?Calgary Esports League is set to hold tournaments for?League of Legends, Super Smash Bros. and Tekken 7, among others.

One of the League’s organisers, Wes Nelson, said they hoped to attract more than 160 players.

“We’re trying to get the community and the gamers involved to a greater degree on this first one and just kind of bring all the games together, all the players together,” he said.

“But esports are taking off everywhere and it’s going to take off here, so we thought it could be us that does it.”

2018 saw the emergence of professional Canadian eSports squads, as well as a little tussle over naming rights showcasing the growing interest in the sport.

While Calgary can not boast anyone of elite professional talent, the fastest way to foster their own home grown talent is to support young players and provide avenues to showcase their skills.

Nelson said the Calgary league would focus on establishing a young core of players and would only splash out on international, high-level talent on a rare, exclusive basis.

“We can start building drama and that story as the community gets to know these guys and starts to care about whether they win or lose,” he said.

The Calgary Esport League’s first tournament will be streamed live on Twitch.
