]]>Despite losing the first map on Mirage, MIBR rallied with a hard-fought win on Anubis and then dominated on Nuke to secure the series.
This marks the first time since Season 15 that a Brazilian Counter-Strike team has reached the quarter-finals of the Pro League.

MIBR, who have only lost one match in Malta so far, will now face the in-form M80 in their first-ever meeting.
Heroic started strong on Mirage, jumping to a 9-3 lead on the terrorist side.
MIBR fought back after the side switch but ultimately faltered in the 21st round, losing to only two guns.
Anubis played out similarly, with Heroic leading much of the first half before MIBR’s resurgence after the break.
Despite a fumble in a 2v1 situation, MIBR kept their composure and closed out the game.
The momentum carried into Nuke, where Felipe “?insani?” Yujis standout performance led MIBR to a commanding 9-3 lead.
Though Heroic won the second pistol round, their comeback was stopped by MIBRs force-buy win.

Eternal Fire also booked their spot in the quarter-finals after a grueling three-map series against The MongolZ.
Mirage saw both teams in near parity, with The MongolZ taking the map in overtime.
However, Eternal Fire bounced back on Anubis, driven by star rifler Ismailcan “?XANTARES?” D?rtkarde?, before taking Inferno in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.

In other action, Spirit secured a quarter-final berth after defeating Imperial 2-0 in a tense series (Nuke 16-13, Dust2 13-3).
Spirit’s star, Danil “?donk?” Kryshkovets, played a key role in the victory, despite some struggles on Nuke.
Imperial fought valiantly, especially on Nuke, but were ultimately outclassed on Dust2.
Spirit will now face Natus Vincere in the top-eight stage.

Liquid also cruised into the quarter-finals after dismantling Complexity 2-0 (13-2 Nuke, 13-7 Anubis).
Complexity, who looked solid against FaZe, were overwhelmed by Liquids preparation and individual prowess, particularly from Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak and Mareks “?YEKINDAR?” Ga?inskis.
Liquid’s flawless defence on Nuke and clutch performances on Anubis sealed their victory, setting up a quarter-final clash with G2 Esports.

“It feels way better,” said Rasmus “?sjuush?” Beck in a post-match interview, expressing relief over their improved coordination.
On the flip side, this defeat is another blow to Virtus.pro, who have been in a slump since adding Denis “?electroNic?” Sharipov to their roster.
Despite managing wins over Team Falcons, FURIA Esports, and RED Canids to reach the playoffs, their lacklustre terrorist-side performances against Heroicscoring just four rounds across both mapsunderscored their ongoing struggles.
The match began on Ancient, where Heroic rallied from an early deficit to lead 5-2, only for Virtus.pro to recover and hold a slim lead at halftime.
However, Heroic came out strong in the second half, converting key clutches, including a 2v4 and two 1v2s from NertZ and sjuush, to secure a 13-8 win.
On Dust2, Heroic dominated, building a 9-3 lead by halftime and closing out the series 13-6, with standout performances from sjuush and Guy “NertZ” Iluz.

In another ESL Pro League playoff match, The MongolZ pulled off a thrilling 2-1 victory over BIG.
The series went to triple overtime on Ancient, with BIG narrowly taking the map 22-19, thanks to a quad-kill from Johannes “?tabseN?” Wodarz.
However, The MongolZ bounced back, winning 13-11 on Nuke and 13-9 on Mirage to progress to the second round.
They will face Eternal Fire next, a team they previously defeated at the IEM Cologne Play-in.
Meanwhile, Team Spirit knocked out FURIA Esports with a 2-0 victory (13-9 Nuke, 13-11 Anubis).
FURIA showed improvement from their last meeting at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade but couldn’t overcome Spirit’s solid defensive play, particularly from Dmitry “?sh1ro?” Sokolov and Leonid “?chopper?” Vishnyakov.

Finally, Complexity’s core roster earned their first-ever victory over FaZe Clan, winning 2-0 (13-10, 13-9) in a decisive series.
They took down FaZe on Anubis and Dust2, despite standout performances from Robin “?ropz?” Kool.
Complexity’s game plan, spearheaded by Johnny “?JT?” Theodosiou and coach Tiaan “?T.c?” Coertzen, neutralised FaZe’s usual unpredictability.
EliGE commented post-match that FaZe lacked their trademark confidence and individual flair.
Complexity’s impressive team play, anchored by Ricky “?floppy?” Kemery and Michael “?Grim?” Wince, was crucial to their win.
They now face Team Liquid next, with G2 waiting in the quarterfinals.
FaZe, despite their efforts, have now exited five events in a row at the first stage of the playoffs, continuing a frustrating run for the team.

Both BIG and The MongolZ have proved to be deadly outfits on their day throughout the ESL Pro League group stage.
BIG performed very well in their lower-bracket run in Group C, defeating Rooster and Fnatic 2-0 before besting Complexity 2-1 in the lower final. In those series, Rigon “rigoN” Gashi, Florian “syrsoN” Rische, and Jon “JDC” de Castro carried this relatively new line-up, which will set them up well for this high-kill clash.
The MongolZ have experienced an inconsistent Pro League campaign, with losses to 3DMAX and Team Spirit before bouncing back with wins against KOI, 9z Team and 3DMAX to advance from Group B. Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren and co. play a frantic style of CS, as they live or die by the sword in terms of their play-calling on the terrorist side.
Given the dramatic difference in game styles, it is hard to predict a winner; however, expect to see all three maps in the opening series of the day.

Virtus.pro and Heroic have met four times during 2024, with VP taking each of those meetings. As such, it is no surprise that top esports betting sites have marked the Russians as -181.82 favourites.
Virtus.pro showed solid form throughout the group stage, winning against Team Falcons and FURIA to take out the lower final in Group D. Although this roster hasn’t faced Heroic yet, the world No.8 team seems to have found its mojo again and is firing on all cylinders ahead of the playoffs.
Heroic have slowly fallen in the world rankings over the last three months, and after some poor showings at S-Tier events, they are now 17th in the world. Losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal Esports in the group stage don’t read well for this clash.
Virtus.pro are worthy favourites in this contest, and considering the form these two bring into the playoffs, it is hard to tip against them.

Team Spirit and FURIA Esports will clash for the second time in three weeks, following Spirit’s dominant 2-0 victory at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade on August 30.
Spirit lost to MIBR in the upper bracket of Group B but bounced back with wins over The MongolZ and 3DMAX, even though they were pushed to three maps in both series. Danil “donk” Kryshkovets seems to be Spirit’s only win condition; if he shows up and tops the server in kills, Spirit win, but if he doesn’t, they struggle.
FURIA have performed as expected. They’ve beaten the teams they should beat and lost the games they are expected to lose. However, one constant for FURIA is Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato, who is yet to finish any of their five matches with a negative kills-to-deaths ratio and is pivotal to their chances of causing an upset.
Neither of these teams are easy to tip with confidence, but we are getting great odds for FURIA to win one map.

FaZe Clan, who are notorious for being slow starters at events, fell to Sangal Esports in the opening round before defeating FlyQuest, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Sangal en route to a top-three finish in Group A. Although FaZe have not been at their best, David “frozen” ?eransky is the fourth-ranked player (1.40) in ESL Pro League Season 20, and if FaZe want to lift the trophy, he will need some help from his teammates.
Complexity may have qualified through the last-chance stage; however, they defeated Astralis and MOUZ twice to qualify for playoffs, which is a much tougher run compared to that of FaZe. Unfortunately for Complexity supporters, their previous meetings against FaZe have not gone their way, with the North American organisation losing each of the last four series.
With two confident yet inconsistent rosters set to clash, expect a back-and-forth series that will be played out over three maps.

Complexity now faces Imperial Esports, while Astralis battles Rooster to stay alive in the Counter-Strike 2 tournament.
Despite rebuilding their roster after failing to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen, Astralis has seen their form decline since notable top-four finishes at IEM Chengdu and ESL Pro League Season 19.
Their recent loss to Fnatic in the EPL opener left them hoping for a rebound against a struggling Complexity.
However, Astralis fell short, with star AWPer Nicolai “device” Reedtz underperforming, leading to an apology on social media.

Poor offensive play and bizarre mid-round decisions added to their woes.
Complexity, though far from perfect, edged out Astralis thanks to standout performances from Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and H?kon “hallzerk” Fj?rli.
While Complexity may not take much pride in barely defeating an out-of-form Astralis, their better gun round performance on Inferno and individual firepower got the job done.

Group C at ESL Pro League Season 20 starts with a clash between Astralis and Fnatic, who have yet to face off this season. But even with no head-to-head fixtures, it is easy to see why Astralis are expected to win.
Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz and co. have not won a tournament this year and didn’t make it very far at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024 in August. However, Astralis have posted promising performances against the world’s elite teams over the last month, which gives hope they are slowly finding momentum.
Fnatic are 2-3 from their last five series, with those wins coming against Cloud9 and OG — hardly world-beaters. Nevertheless, they have shown improvement, and with the talent on this roster, they should be able to make some noise in Malta.
At -153.85 to take a map off Astralis, Fnatic are an obvious choice.

Imperial Esports are priced as slight favourites to defeat BIG, who have failed to find much success at the top level this year. On the other side, Imperial have not won any significant titles either, so it is not like the teams’ accomplishments are the main differentiating factor.
The Brazilians are in a much better spot in terms of map pools, with a better win rate on all maps except for Ancient, which is BIG’s second-best map, but it will likely get banned. Imperial also come out ahead on individual form, with all five players averaging a 1.04 performance rating or higher.
Despite all that, we have to consider that Imperial have been playing weaker opponents than BIG of late. Expect a close affair.

Team Liquid had an explosive start to IEM Cologne 2024 at the beginning of August but failed to make it past FaZe Clan (twice) and crashed out of the tournament in seventh-eighth place. Prior to that, Liquid won BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2024, and they did well at IEM Dallas 2024, so something is working for this lineup.
Since their former lineup fell apart, ENCE have not come close to winning a single big event. They’ve been particularly disappointing over the last month, with early exits from IEM Rio 2024, Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, and ThunderPick World Championship 2024 qualifiers.

Complexity beat M80 16-14 in the second round of the Esports World Cup 2024 in July, and they are expected to do just as well on Tuesday. This is unsurprising considering Complexity’s solid performances over the next month, which includes competitive games against the world’s elite teams.
M80 have also shown excellent form throughout August, although most of their wins have come from ESL Challenger League Season 48: North America, where Elias “s1n” Stein and co. faced lesser regional opponents.
Complexity are a more proven team at the top level. However, clashes between regional rivals are often closer than expected, which makes M80 a solid pick to take at least one map.

The Russians are 3-7 from their last 10 outings, with those wins coming against Zero Tenacity, BIG, and the struggling Team Falcons. While that run includes clashes with stronger teams than what RED Canids have had to face, it does not change the fact that Virtus.pro have not been playing well.
RED Canids are in stronger form and have a better win rate on six of the seven maps in the rotation. Even though VP are rightly the favourites, the underdogs should be good for one map.

Team Falcons have the potential to do well in this tournament. But even five months after finalising their roster with Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen, they are not in the spot everyone expected them to be.
They have had a couple of solid showings, most recently with a grand final appearance at ESL Challenger at DreamHack Summer 2024. Still, the Falcons also placed 9th-12th at the Fall Groups and Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024, although most of their struggles have come against the world’s elite Counter-Strike teams.
M80 replaced NRG for BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2024 and seem to be in solid form, yet all of their success this season has come in lesser events. So, while M80 have been winning games, they are not that great when playing at such a high level.

Zero Tenacity recently ended their losing streak, picking up a few wins over the last week. However, all of their recent games were against lower-rated teams, so it is unlikely the Balkan lineup will manage to translate that success to this fixture.
Virtus.pro should not be losing games like this, nor should they give away too much. Despite their shaky record, VP are still vastly superior and look poised to come out with a 2-0 sweep.

FaZe entered their match against Falcons as heavy favorites with esports betting sites, and they lived up to expectations.
Dust2 began with an 8-0 streak, with H?vard “?rain?” Nygaard dismantling the Falcons’ offense.
Although Falcons managed to force overtime, FaZe’s superior firepower and strategic adjustments secured a 16-13 win.

FaZe had narrowly defeated Liquid in their group opener, but this time, the stakes were even higher, with a spot in the playoffs on the line.
Liquid picked Inferno instead of Mirage, hoping for a better outcome, but FaZe’s David “?frozen?” ?eransky dominated the B-site, helping FaZe secure a 13-9 win.
Nuke was more competitive, with Liquid pushing the game into overtime before FaZe’s defence, led by frozen, halted several of their advances.
Liquid eventually broke through the strong defences, securing the map with a 16-13 scoreline to send the series to a deciding map.
The decider on Mirage seemed destined for a Liquid victory as they stormed to an 11-1 lead, leaving FaZe on the brink of elimination.
However, in one of the greatest comebacks in CS2 history, FaZe clawed their way back from a 3-12 deficit.
A flawless defence from ?rain? and Robin “?ropz?” Kool shut down Liquid’s attacks, forcing the match into overtime.

FaZe picked Inferno for the first map, and with strong performances from key players like Robin “ropz” Kool and H?vard “rain” Nygaard, they took an early lead in the series with a 13-8 victory.
Although Vitality was forced into overtime on their map pick of Dust2, Shahar “flameZ” Shushan stepped up and carried the world number four to a 16-12 win, forcing a decider on Anubis.
The squads couldn’t be separated at halftime, locked at 6-6, before heading into the final half of the match.
However, Vitality, led by flameZ again, would win seven of the final 10 rounds on their terrorist side to close out the map and series, 13-9.
It's a reverse sweep from @TeamVitality to best @FaZeClan and secure themselves a spot in the #IEM Cologne Playoffs

On the other side of the bracket, MOUZ took care of Complexity 2-0 (13-9, 13-11), with Jimi “Jimpphat” Salo, Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin, and dm “torzsi” Torzss dominating for the world number three.
Torzsi, who led the way on Vertigo, recorded a server-high rating (1.39) and kills (19) to power MOUZ to a 13-9 win on Complexity’s map pick.
MOUZ picked Nuke, and even though it was much closer than the opening map, Brollan (1.54 rating) and Jimpphat (1.47 rating) led the way in a hard-fought 13-11 victory.
MOUZ will face Vitality in the Group B upper bracket final, with the winner locking in a semi-final spot and the loser having to settle for a quarter-final berth.
It's a not so simple 2-0 for @mousesports as they close out the series vs @ComplexityCS after a bit of back and forth.

Earlier in the day, FURIA and Virtus.pro were eliminated from the IEM Cologne after suffering their second defeat of the group stage.
FURIA’s second straight 0-2 loss, this time against Team Liquid, ended their disappointing campaign in Cologne, while VP was knocked out by Falcons in a back-and-forth three-map series.
Finally, The Mongolz and Astralis had their runs ended by paiN Gaming and G2 Esports, respectively, in the lower bracket of Group A.
G2 continued their IEM Cologne resurgence with a 2-1 (13-1, 13-10, 13-3) victory, where the world number four dominated their Danish opponents on two of the three maps.
The Mongolz suffered a similar fate to their upper bracket loss on Sunday, as they claimed the opening map before losing the next two, going down 1-2 (13-16, 13-10, 13-8) against paiN.
The final day of the group stage will take place on Wednesday, with the final two teams locking in their spots to compete in the LANXESS Arena.

After dropping their Anubis pick, Liquid found themselves in trouble but bounced back on Nuke.
Key performances from Russel “?Twistzz?” Van Dulken and Roland “?ultimate?” Tomkowiak helped Liquid turn the tide.
The decider on Mirage saw Liquid dominate, with Justin “?jks?” Savage and Keith “?NAF?” Markovic anchoring both ends of the map, allowing Mareks “YEKINDAR” Ga?inskis and ultimate to roam freely.
Liquid’s strong map pool and adaptability carried them to victory, with a final win securing their spot in the top-16.
It went to DOUBLE OT but @ComplexityCS still defeat @eternalfiregg 2-0 in order to advance at #IEM Cologne 2024 without dropping a map in Stage 1

Complexity also punched their ticket to the group stage with a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Eternal Fire.
After a rough start on Vertigo, Complexity managed a comeback, fueled by a 1vs3 pistol clutch and stellar terrorist-side play from Jonathan “?EliGE?” Jablonowski.
The battle on Dust2 was even more intense, with Complexity and Eternal Fire trading rounds in a messy but entertaining match.
Michael “?Grim?” Wince’s 1vs2 ace clutch was pivotal, and despite some shaky moments, Johnny “?JT?” Theodosiou’s clutch in double overtime secured the win.

SAW became the first team to advance to the group stage from the play-in.
The Portuguese squad triumphed over BIG in a three-map series that culminated in a nail-biting Inferno decider.
After trading each other’s map picks, SAW came back from a deficit on Inferno, with Jo?o “?story?” Vieira’s 1vs2 clutch in the final round sealing the victory.
The win was a significant milestone for veterans Ricardo “?roman?” Oliveira and Christopher “?MUTiRiS?” Fernandes, who credited their younger teammates for the success.
While those three teams have qualified for the main event at IEM Cologne, FlyQuest, 3DMAX and ALTERNATE aTTaX were eliminated from the play-in stage on Thursday after suffering their second loss.
Friday will be the final day of the play-in stage, and the remaining 10 squads will battle it out for the last five places in the main event.
