The road to the grand final wasn’t smooth for G2, as they were sent to the lower bracket after a surprising loss to MAD Lions KOI in the first round of playoffs.
However, G2 showcased their resilience, battling their way back by defeating GiantX, narrowly avoiding elimination against Team BDS, and avenging their earlier defeat by beating MAD KOI to secure a spot in the final.
In the grand final, Fnatic, the winners of the upper bracket, put up a strong fight.
The first game of the series was the longest match of the split and the longest ever between the two rivals, with G2 narrowly securing the win.
Although Fnatic bounced back in game two with a convincing victory, G2 quickly dashed any hopes of a five-game series by winning the next two games, sealing the series and their 17th regional title.
This victory marks G2’s fourth European League of Legends trophy of 2024, and the rivalry between G2 and Fnatic, nearly a decade old, once again delivered an intense and entertaining series for fans.
However, Fnatic, once the dominant force in the European League, remains far from reclaiming its former glory, with their last title dating back to 2018 before the LEC rebranding.
G2��s dominance this year also serves as a preview of what they might bring to the 2024 World Championship, set to begin in less than a month in Berlin.
Both G2 and Fnatic have qualified for the World Championship, with MAD Lions KOI also progressing to the play-ins.
Worlds will take place across Europe, with the grand final set for the O2 Arena in London.

Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther, G2’s mid-laner, thanked the fans for their support, while Steve “Hans Sama” Liv, who earned the finals MVP, expressed his determination to continue improving.
Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, G2��s support, acknowledged the pressure but emphasised the team��s confidence going into the international stage.
Assistant coach Christopher “Duffman” Duff highlighted the team’s focus on raising their floor rather than reaching a ceiling, a strategy that paid off throughout the year.
Fnatic, on the other hand, continues to grapple with their shortcomings.
Fnatic founder and CEO Sam Mathews acknowledged the disappointment of finishing second to G2 once again but emphasised the importance of preparing for Worlds.
The grand final between G2 and Fnatic was a riveting back-and-forth series, with the first game lasting 51 minutes and 20 seconds, setting a record for the longest game of the year in the LEC.

MAD Lions KOI have recently lost a barnburner of a series against Fnatic. Thanks to their explosive early game and solid teamfighting, MAD Lions KOI looked more than competitive and had they not thrown two big leads, things could��ve won the series 3-1.
G2 Esports are still getting a lot of respect, which makes sense, as this is the best Western LoL esports team when they are performing to the best of their ability. Yet we have not seen this side of G2 Esports in a long time, which begs the question of why they are -416.67 favourites here.

Team BDS were expected to do well in the opening LEC 2024 Season Finals series against Fnatic, yet they were a complete no-show on the day. BDS were out-drafted on map one, outplayed on the second, and crushed on the third. It was one of the worst showings from BDS this split, so things can only go up from here.
SK Gaming looked competitive during the regular season but collapsed in the LEC 2024 Summer Playoffs with losses against Fnatic and Karmine Corp. Unlike BDS, however, Yasin “Nisqy” Din?er and his crew have had a lot more time to fix their mistakes.
The two sides last met in LEC 2024 Summer Week 2, when SK Gaming won. That doesn’t mean much, though, as the teams are similar in style — both are slow and methodical, with solid decision-making — and there is not much to separate them quality-wise.
However, BDS have shown higher highs this season and should not be priced as underdogs for this series. The market has overreacted to their crushing loss to a high-flying Fnatic outfit, so take the solid price for the outsiders.

Fnatic and Team BDS will meet on Saturday, August 10, in the opening round of the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) 2024 Season Finals. Team BDS won when these teams last clashed, but according to LoL betting odds, they are unlikely to emulate that success.
This is not surprising, considering how good Fnatic looked during the LEC 2024 Summer Playoffs — despite losing against G2 Esports in the finals. Team BDS also made a deep run, reaching the lower bracket finals, but like Fnatic, they proved no match for the defending champions.
Comparing the two LoL esports teams’ stats from the playoffs, Fnatic come out ahead in several metrics. They have some of the best numbers in the league, including 113 gold difference per minute, 18.2 average kills per game, and the second-highest first tower rate (61.5%), but also a +571 gold difference at 15 minutes. However, that number is a bit skewed due to how the finals played out.
Looking past the numbers, despite posting worse stats, Team BDS performed well in their playoff series and arguably should have beaten G2 Esports.
The main question here is whether Fnatic can get a substantial lead in the early game, considering Team BDS are pretty good at keeping their games close. Still, even if the underdogs can fight back, their mid-late game transition is terrible, which should enable the Black & Orange to put themselves in a favourable spot to win.
Fnatic can be a bit volatile, but they are a solid choice at -113.64, with the best LoL betting sites to win without dropping more than a map.

Since their heroic run to the LEC 2021 Summer title, MAD Lions have been quite an enigma, usually saving their peak performances for best-of series. This likely has to do with their flexibility and ability to prepare for the games ahead.
Fnatic made significant strides in LEC 2023 Summer, and after finishing the first two splits in ninth and eighth place, the Black & Orange made the semifinals of the LEC 2023 Summer Playoffs. But like MAD Lions, Fnatic have shown good and iffy performances since the regular season, with a fairly high degree of volatility.
With ��scar “Oscarinin” Mu?oz Jim��nez out with an injury, Fnatic will continue playing with Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen, who is hardly a downgrade. Wunder performed admirably in the series against Team BDS and should provide some consistency and a stable top side for Fnatic against MAD.
Fnatic have a better top side, but if we compare other lanes, it’s tough to pick a favourite. Both teams can play through the bot lane and have versatile mid-laners and junglers who can carry the series.
This game could go either way, so we would have to be getting slightly better odds from LoL betting sites to pick a team. Instead, we’ll take over 12.5 towers, as Fnatic and MAD Lions both averaged over 12 towers per game during the regular season.

Opting for a Kalista ADC could help SK Gaming put more pressure on Team BDS early and deny them getting to the mid-late game even or ahead. But when we compare the two teams and their win conditions, it’s all about what SK Gaming can do to stop Team BDS from playing their game.
Besides the general approach to the game, top lane will be a problem if Adam “Adam” Maanane gets ahead, and even if he doesn’t, SK will have to pay attention to his roaming, which can put immense pressure on the map. There’s also the bottom lane, where Team BDS have a slight edge.
This match will come down to SK Gaming and their ability to open up the game, but based on their recent performances, this sounds much easier said than done. Team BDS have a much clearer win condition and should win unless SK Gaming take over the early game, which they’re not very good at.

It is no surprised to see Excel priced as favourites with most LoL betting sites. Even though the teams had two weeks to prepare for this match, and we also got a huge patch (13.15), this likely won’t change the balance of power.
Ignoring the first two splits, Excel Esports have looked like one of the best teams in the region. They had their ups and downs during the regular season and weren’t dominant in the LEC 2023 Summer Groups. But in the playoffs, Excel stepped up, playing two good games against G2 Esports and humiliating Fnatic.
In contrast, MAD Lions barely made it into the LEC 2023 Summer Groups and were then swept by Fnatic and Excel Esports. The Lions were quite good in the first two splits, but in LEC 2023 Summer, their form has dropped significantly.
The gap between Excel Esports and MAD Lions is much more significant than the offered LoL betting odds suggest. Even though they are known to be a resilient team in best-of series, this version of MAD Lions doesn’t look nearly as scary as they did in winter or spring.
