]]>OverActive Media made the announcement via a press release on its official website, stating the renewal of its previous partnership and expansion of the agreement.
OverActive, a global sports, media and entertainment company for todays generation of fans, announced the renewal and expansion of their agreement with Warner Music Spain, the press release read.
Warner Music is part of leading record label Warner Music Group featuring artists such as Pablo Alborn, Dua Lipa and Bruno Mars.
The partnership provides OverActives MAD Lions brand, one of the top esports organizations in Europe, with continued opportunities to grow its presence across music, lifestyle, and entertainment, deepening engagement with its fanbase.
MAD Lions, who are reputable for their League of Legends team, will benefit directly from the partnership, which will see the label create music-themed fan content for the franchise. The fan experiences to be created will include, but not be limited to, events and content creation.
Owing to the partnership, the MAD Lions’ campaign for the upcoming League of Legends LEC season, which is to begin in January 2023, will commence with some new activations geared towards fan reward.
The Head of Artist Services and Institutional Relations at Warner Music Spain, Sergio Mndez, commented on the partnership, highlighting the opportunities it offers both companies.
“Warner Music Spain is proud to continue our relationship with OverActive to build on the momentum across esports and to provide added value for our artists, MAD Lions players, and fans of both worlds,” Mndez said.
“MAD Lions is a leader in European esports with an extremely loyal fanbase. We look forward to amplifying the synergy between music and video games with one of the best in the business.
While the length of the partnership was not revealed by either of the companies, this is not the first time that the esports team has collaborated with the label giants. The 2021 League of Legends World Champions had previously collaborated on a music video in 2021 that featured players from the team’s roster.
The partnership also saw the European franchise procure their own official team playlist on streaming platform, Spotify. The playlist featured some artists from Warner Musics roster, who graced it with their melodious renditions.
The Senior Director and Head of EU Business for OverActive Media, Ricardo Gmez-Acebo Botn, expressed his excitement about the partnership. He also shared the company’s intentions to explore new territories in the near future.
Were thrilled to extend our relationship with Warner Music Spain, Botn said.
The renewed commitment to our business signals their confidence in both MAD Lions and where esports is headed.
Having a creative partner like Warner Music Spain provides us with latitude to build on what weve accomplished over the past year and to explore new territory moving forward.
OverActive Medias footprint in the esports scene is highly commendable. Aside from MAD Lions, the company has several esports franchises that compete favorably in several other esports titles. These franchises include the Toronto Ultra, who participate in the Call of Duty League and are the 2021 CODL Stage 2 Major champions, and the Toronto Defiant, who field an Overwatch League roster.
The company had recently shared its financial report for the first half of the year. The report showed that the company recorded a loss of CAD $7 million, which is slightly less than the outcome for the same period last year (CAD $8.2 million).

]]>With the changes, a new head of EU business has been appointed to fill in for Jorge Schnura, who resigned his position as the vice-president of strategy. Ricardo Gomez-Acebo Botin was revealed to be the new head of EU business.
While Schnura has left the company to start his brand, he will continue in an advisory role for OverActive. The former vice-president of strategy, in his statement, said that he is proud of the strides MAD Lions have made as an organization.
“Im incredibly proud of the calibre of work that has come out of the MAD Lions team. We set out to establish MAD Lions as a top esports club that represents the Spanish passion for lifestyle and gaming, and thats exactly what weve done,” he said. “While Ive made the difficult decision to move on from OverActive, I remain very much invested in the continued success of the Company and am thrilled to have Ricardo at the helm.”
Botin, who will also be performing as a conduit for the finance and human resources department in Canada, spoke on the changes at the helm. He also thanked Schnura for his leadership over the years.
“Im excited to carry the MAD Lions legacy forward. Weve made great strides since joining OverActive Media and continue to deliver enhanced experiences to our fans and corporate partners. I want to thank Jorge for his leadership and vision in building the MAD Lions brand to where it is today.”
In 2019, Botin played a key role in the deal that sealed the sale of MAD Lions to OverActive. Since then, he has been an integral part of the organization and has worked closely with Schnura.
Chris Overholt, the president and CEO of OverActive Media, also commented on the change in leadership. In his eyes, the foundation Schnura has laid over the years will help Botin ease into the role.
“Jorges entrepreneurial spirit has been a key part of our progression and growth in the European market. While its always tough to see talented people move on from your organization, we certainly wish Jorge well and celebrate our shared success. We are confident the foundation that has been established in Spain and moving forward under Ricardos leadership sets us up well for the future.”
Changes have been coming to OverActive since the start of the year, many in form of partnerships. A few days ago, the company extended its sponsorship deal with TD Bank. However, it is worth pointing out that the deal only applies to Toronto Ultra and Toronto Defiant.
Meanwhile, MAD Lions have also been busy this year. The Spanish organization signed a lucrative deal with Zilliqa, which helped boost OverActive’s cash flow in its first-quarter financial report.
MAD Lions are currently competing in the 2022 League of Legends LEC Summer. They are currently tied second with four other teams in the group stage standings.
Yasin “Nisqy” Din?er has been the star of the show for MAD, winning two MVP awards in three games. If they successfully finish in the top three of the LEC SUmmer, they will get direct seeding to the 2022 World Championship.
