Week seven of the 2019 LCS Summer Split is behind us, meaning there are only two more weeks before the long-awaited playoffs begin. While some teams are still fighting for a spot in the final six, Team Liquid are already looking ahead to the knockout phase.
July 21 marked the day when Liquid got their 11th win of the split against Golden Guardians to become the first team through to the LCS Summer playoffs. While no one questioned whether they would reach the post-season, the NA powerhouse proved their dominance with another 2-0 week to take an 11-3 record in the last fortnight of the split.
That record is especially impressive when you factor in Team Liquid’s slow start. They fell to Echo Fox in week one and Counter Logic Gaming in week two, which put them in a six-way tie for top spot at 2-2 heading into week three.
Following mediocre performances in the opening two weeks, Liquid found their rhythm and decimated FlyQuest and OpTic Gaming to secure their first perfect week of the split. But the MSI 2019 finalists did not stop there. After wins over Golden Guardians and Clutch Gaming in week four, TL sat top of standings with a 6-2 record.
Liquid started week five with a painful defeat to old rivals Cloud9, but they dusted themselves off and won the next fixture against 100 Thieves to take their record to 7-3. That marked the beginning of a five-game winning streak that included victories over CLG, FlyQuest, Clutch and Guardians, none of whom could halt TL’s climb towards the finals.
The 2019 LCS Summer Split playoffs are scheduled to begin August 10, when Liquid will resume their bid for a third consecutive split win and a place in the League of Legends World Championships.
