Apex Legends roster on Monday, January 23.

According to their 26-year-old American coach, Will “TeQ” Starck, who revealed the news via a TwitLonger, the team was released as a result of “poor performance.”

“Didn’t think I’d have to write this post, but the organization decided to disband the team and start over. During the first split, there were a lot of really unfortunate circumstances that just got out of our control and ultimately led to our poor performance as a team,” he said.

After having a pretty good run at the beginning of the last season, the team started to make a decline in performance by coming in 23rd at the Apex Legends Global Series 2022-2023: Split 1 of the Pro League – North America, the team also failed to qualify for the second split.

TeQ expressed how disappointed he was not to have had the chance to qualify for the second split, despite all the hard work he put into coaching the players.

“Personally, I felt like I dedicated a lot of time, effort, and research to the team’s success, and it really hurts me to know that we won’t get a chance to showcase that in the second split. Throughout my time with the Sentinels, there were glimpses of a good game, but it just wasn’t enough. Despite this, I take full responsibility for the work of the team, and senoxe or crust should not be blamed,” TeQ added.

The players who parted ways with the Apex Legends team include the 23-year-old Canadian Adam “senoxe” Lau, the former eUnited player Nicholas “Crust” Kell, the 21-year-old American Captain Trenton “lou” Clements, and coach TeQ, who joined them in November 2022.

Despite Sentinels’ poor performance, they have managed to win a handful of tournaments since they entered Apex Legends about two seasons ago. These events include the 2021 Apex Legends Global Series: Split 1 Pro League – North America, the 2021 UMG Champions Invitational 2, and the 2022 BFC Pro Series Season 1: Week #1.

Coach TeQ also spoke about his future plans now that he has left the Apex Legends team. He said he is looking forward to representing another Apex Legends team as a coach, or he would not mind serving as a player, but he will be the captain of the team if that is the case. He also thanked the Sentinels for giving him the opportunity to ride with them.

“Moving on, I’m looking for another opportunity for a coaching job or a player’s role as a captain. I know that I will be of great benefit to the team, whether as a coach or as a captain. I strive to win and I am ready to make it happen. Thanks to the Sentinels fans for being a great and incredibly funny group of people. I love you guys and I’m sorry I let you down,” he concluded.

Sentinel is yet to disclose the future plans of the team, including if they will be fielding another roster soon to compete in other Apex Legends tournaments or if they will be going off the radar for the 2023 season or for a much longer time off the Apex Legends scene.

The players as well are still yet to speak about their abrupt visit to the free agency market. It is likely that finding a new team will be difficult, as teams have already locked in their rosters for the 2023 season. Nonetheless, players might be lucky enough to still get signed to a team or even serve as a substitute player.

This is not the first time the esports outfit have made a drastic decision such as this one. In December 2022, they also parted ways with their entire Fortnite roster as a result of a lack of sponsors.
